Mark Materi from Kraft presents the $25

Mark Materia from Kraft Foods was in Kimberley last Friday to drop off a $25,000 cheque.

The money, earned as a semi-finalist in Kraft’s Hockeyville contest, will be used for improvements in Marysville Arena, likely new rubber mats for the dressing rooms says Mayor Ron McRae.

The Marysville Arena entry in the contest was initiated by Curtis Maclaren and officially entered by a letter from Elva Keiver. Although Kimberley didn’t win, a semi-final placement netted $25,000 for Marysville Arena.

The arena was under a fair bit of scrutiny by Council last year as a new $350,000 ice plant was debated. The old plant was failing and the Boiler Inspector had indicated that it could no longer be used.

In the end, after much deliberation and pleas from users, Council decided to go ahead with the plant.

McRae says work on the new plant is almost complete and the Marysville Arena will be ready for the coming hockey/figure skating season.
