Man arrested after attempted break and enter

Cranbrook RCMP arrest 24 year old male who attempted a break and enter early Wednesday morning.

Just after midnight on April 22nd, 2015, Cranbrook RCMP received the report of an unknown person attempting to gain entry to residences in the area of 1st street and 17th avenue south, Cranbrook.

As police arrived on scene the suspect fled on foot.  An extensive patrol of the area located the suspect hiding in some bushes approximately a block away.

A 24 year old Cranbrook man was arrested and taken into police custody without incident. He was taken to the RCMP Detachment where he was lodged in police lock up to be released when sober later in the morning.

The suspect has been released on a promise to appear for a first appearance court date in June. The matter is still under investigation and police will be recommending charges of attempted break and enter and trespass by night.

“This is a good example of vigilant residents watching over their neighbourhood and then calling police after observing suspicious activity," said S/Sgt. Dave Dubnyk. "With immediate police attendance and information from witnesses, this individual was taken into police custody before anything more serious could happen."
