Oktoberfest in Kimberley

Organizers looking for accordion players and oom-pah-pah

The concept behind Kimberley’s First Saturdays initiative was that any number of events could happen on a first Saturday, and hopefully others would jump on board. That appears to be happening as more and more events are appearing on the first Saturday of each month.

The last first Saturday of the year will be on October 5, so what better time to have an Oktoberfest celebration?

A group of Platzl business owners are planning an Oktoberfest event to coincide with the final first Saturday and they are looking for participation from local residents and businesses.

Already planned are beer gardens and food all day from 11 to 11 at the Green Door; brewery tours and beer/food gardens at Mozart House and a beer/food garden at Chef Bernards.

And for the kiddies, a root beer garden and kid friendly environment at the Snow Drift. The Kimberley City Bakery will have an extra supply of pretzels on hand.

The Dollar Store will have all the Oktoberfest swag you need so you can  arrive in style.

What is needed to pull it all together is a few more businesses getting involved and a few musicians (especially those who can play a little oom-pah-pah on an accordion).

Ideas being hashed over are :

-Pretzel toss/Pretzel Making Demo

-Bar Maid Races

-Kids Zone-Kazoo Parade, Dog Parade
