The final First Saturday of 2014 will be this weekend, October 4, and so far, long range weather forecasts predict a sunny day.

The theme of this First Saturday is, of course, Oktoberfest and all things Bavarian will be celebrated. Last year’s Oktoberfest was one of the most successful of the First Saturdays. A repeat is expected this year.

Celebrations get underway at noon in the Platzl with the Bergermeister (Mayor Ron McRae) opening the Festival.

Then you will have an opportunity to parade with Happy Hans while playing kazoo, bring the kids for face painting, story time, a Root Beer Garden, craft zone and more.

Clarence Uhll will be playing the accordion, the Steppin’ Out dancers will perform, along with the L8 Band. There is an art market and workshops, penny whistle workshop, high tea at Chateau Kimberley, bar races sponsored by the Elks Club, pretzel throwing contest, strudel eating contest and more.

It all winds up with Rocktoberfest from 5 to 8 p.m. outside Centre 64 with The Hollers. Enjoy music, beer, brats and pretzels. This is a free concert but donations are gratefully accepted.
