A Brazilian woman charged with murder over the March 2013 death of her boyfriend in Marysville will be in Cranbrook court for a preliminary inquiry in November.
Claudia De Assumpcao, 38, is being held at Alouette Correctional Centre for Women in Maple Ridge on charges of murder and arson.
Jordon Lenard Lomsnes, 47, died on March 8, 2013 in Marysville. RCMP said De Assumpcao was living with Lomsnes at the time of his death. A murder charge was laid against De Assumpcao on March 12, 2013.
In Cranbrook Provincial Court on Monday, June 30, an agent for De Assumpcao's lawyer Marilyn Sanford said the case is ready to proceed to a preliminary inquiry in Cranbrook from November 24 to 27.
A preliminary inquiry, which is like a dry run for a trial, is where the Crown prosecutor presents the evidence in the case to the judge, who determines whether there is enough evidence that a jury could convict the accused.
De Assumpcao will be present in person for the preliminary inquiry, as will a Portuguese translator.
