Police have shut down a Cranbrook drug operation that was suspected to be selling to students at the nearby Parkland School.
On Thursday, May 30, Cranbrook RCMP used a warrant to search a home on 2nd Avenue South in Cranbrook, directly across the street from Parkland School.
“Police had received information that the subjects were actively involved in trafficking and selling to students. This heightened police concern and an investigation was quickly initiated,” said Cpl. Chris Newel.
In the house, police found six bags of marijuana weighing either one-ounce or half an ounce each.
“Although the quantity was not significant police were able to obtain evidence to support trafficking,” said Cpl. Newel.
Three people inside the house at the time of the search were arrested and police are recommending the Crown lay charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
While the search warrant was executed on Thursday night, a dance was going on across the street at Laurie Middle School, RCMP said.
“There was no risk to students at the time,” said Cpl. Newel.
“Police are relieved to effectively shut down a trafficking operation that was operating in close proximity to a school.”
