Search on for Kimberley's Best Singer

Winner of local talent contest moves on to regional final

There is no doubt that there is considerable musical talent in Kimberley, but do you have what it takes to stand on stage and belt it out to a live audience?

The search for Kimberley’s best singer is on and the 2013 Audition Showcase is scheduled for April 16, 2013 at McKim Theatre.

This is the second annual Best Singer contest for Kimberley. In 2012, Kimberley’s Best Singer was Victoria Walker followed by Devin Fikis. Third and fourth place belonged to Bob McCue and Gustaf Hagland.

The top 16 from the Audition Showcase move on to the Kimberley Gala event on Friday, May 3. The top two from that event go on to the regional finals in Cranbrook on June 1.

This is an all ages event, but family oriented. No profanity or vulgar lyrics are allowed. All musical styles are welcome. You can sign up as a solo act, or a duo, trio or quartet.

However if you do come as a group, one singer must be designated as lead.

Singers should have a karaoke track, mp3 or CD of their backing track, or you can accompany yourself on guitar or piano. Your song should be approximately three minutes in length including intros and interludes.

Your singing ability will be judged by three judges on a 10 point scale, with eight points based on vocal quality/tempo/rhythm and expression, one point based on stage presence/charisma/entertainment value and one point based upon crowd reaction. All judges will be from outside of the town where the contest is being held whenever possible.

All you have to do to register is go to www.kootenaysbestsinger.com. Registration forms are available on the website. You must register by April 10.

Tickets for audience members are only $10 with all proceeds going to support the music programs in Selkirk Secondary and McKim Middle School in Kimberley.

Tickets available at Snowdrift Cafe in Kimberley and Naturally Chiropractic in Marysville.
