Serious downpour on its way

Environment Canada predicts 25 mm of rain Wednesday.

Environment Canada is warning that the East Kootenay could receive about 25 millimetres of rain on Wednesday, May 28.

The rain dump is coming in a slow moving upper low that was expected to hit the B.C. south coast Tuesday night.

The low will bring heavy rain into the Southern Interior starting Wednesday morning, the meteorologists said in an emailed weather alert.

"Generally, rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 millimetres are expected by Wednesday evening," it reads. "However, embedded thunderstorms are also forecast to develop during the afternoon.

"Due to the uncertain nature of where these storms will develop, some areas may see higher total rainfall amounts – possibly reaching 25 millimetres."
