Following the December 4, 2023 announcement that funding had been secured for Kimberley to go forward with constructing its new wastewater treatment plant, it has now been announced that Shane Castle, Project Manager for the City, will oversee the build.

“I’m looking forward to supporting this build,” Castle said. “The new facility will improve wastewater treatment in Kimberley and will support the City’s efforts for high-quality effluent. This has been a long time coming for our community, and I’m glad to be a part of it.”

Originally from Kimberley, Castle has been in the position of City Project Manager for three years, following municipal experience in Prince George and Gibsons.

In this current role, he has overseen projects such as the active transporation projects at Lindsay Park and Marysville Elementary Schools and the Platzl parking lot revitalization. The City said that with Castle in place, “the wastewater treatment plant will ramp up.”

According to the City, the project is expected to take around four years, with the plant anticipated to be operational by 2028. It was funded by a $66 million grant obtained from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, which is a joint initiative between the Federal and Provincial governments, as well as electoral approval to secure a portion of the City’s costs through borrowing.

With Castle’s appointment to this build, the City will be seeking someone to backfill his position as Project Manager.
