A new wildfire is burning around eight kilometres west of Cranbrook, according to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).
The fire, burning near New Lake, was discoverer at around 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 and is currently considered out of control, meaning it is spreading, or is anticipated to spread beyond its current perimeter.
The fire is currently estimated to be around 0.25 hectares in size and its suspected cause is lightning.
According to the BCWS there are currently two initial attack crews responding and one helicopter currently assigned to the wildfire.
