A woman was randomly assaulted in Cranbrook early on Saturday, May 24, RCMP are reporting.

A woman was randomly assaulted in Cranbrook early on Saturday, May 24, RCMP are reporting.

According to an alert issued by RCMP on Saturday, the woman was walking home alone from downtown Cranbrook between 2 a.m. and 2:20 a.m. on May 24.

She was walking down 2nd Street North towards the college when three aboriginal females approached her and started punching her, the RCMP said. She was able to get away with minor injuries and phone police.

"The Cranbrook RCMP would like to remind the public of the safety concerns of walking alone during the night and recommend always walking in pairs or calling a sober driver or taxi cab," said Cpl. Hrehirchuk.
