Albert Bryan Gaschnitz

“Bert”

August 26, 1929 – December 11, 2016

It is with great sadness that the family of Bert Gaschnitz announces his passing on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

Bert was born in Drumheller, Alberta. Bert moved to British Columbia in 1950 and he met Vicki. They were married on December 15, 1951, residing in Cranbrook where they raised their family. Bert retired from Scott National in 1992.

Family was very important to Bert. He enjoyed fishing and camping trips. His guitar was always close at hand and he loved to play and sing at family gatherings. Golfing, horse shoes, wood working and crosswords were also pastimes that Bert enjoyed. Bert was active in the local chapter of the Associated Canadian Travelers for many years.

Bert was predeceased by his parents Albert and Ada, two brothers Fred and Ken and two sisters Peggy and Edie. He is survived by his loving wife Victoria of 65 years (less four days), son Brian (Mary-Ann) Gaschnitz, and daughters Judith Gaschnitz and Debra (Steven) De Cecco. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren and two great greatgrandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A private family memorial service was held for Bert on Saturday, December 17, 2016. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Bert’s memory to the: M.R.I. - An Image Of Health Campaign, c/o East Kootenay Foundation For Health 13 – 24th Avenue North, Cranbrook, V1C 3H9.
