Youngest son of Richard (Mac) & Mary MacWhirter Decided to go golfing with the lord today, leaving behind his golfing caddies in life, wife Donna and son Sean Hobbs, Father to Lynn Dickson (George), Dawn MacWhiter and his late son Kim. Grandfather to Alex, Kate and Jacob. Will be missed by his brothers Don & Bill MacWhirter; Barbara MacWhirter, mother of his children. As per Barrie’s wishes a private cremation was held in Ottawa and his ashes will be interred in Wasa British Columbia with his parents and son Kim later this Summer.

Barrie grew up in Kimberley and spent his summers at the family cottage in Wasa. He joined the RCAF after graduation. After his service he joined the Canadian Government (Transport Canada) as a radar Tech at the Calgary Airport. A couple years later he took a promotion in Ottawa as a teacher of new radar technicians. Soon after he transferred to Department of National Defence where he was a senior manager in charge of dismantling the Canadian Pine Tree Line, DEW Line. Barrie then became the Senior Manager of the Early Warning System. (NORAD) Barrie retired in 1985 and took up his passion for golf where he became a regional and provincial golf champion. To all his golfing buddies in Ottawa and in Florida. Keep you eye on the ball, bend your knees and hope for the best till we meet again.
