Bernie passed away peacefully on Friday, August 12, 2016 at the East
Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook at the age of 93.
Bernie was born and raised in Arthur, Ontario. As a young man he moved to
Peace River, AB where he worked as a rancher, met Rose who was the love of
his life, and they had fi ve children. Following his passion, Bernie graduated
from Auctioneering School in Montana and went on to sell throughout
Canada and the US, including his own farm and goods in 1968 when he
moved his family to Kimberley, BC to own and run L & K Taxi services. Bernie
was passionate about the country lifestyle, and in 1976 he become a
pioneer of Meadowbrook, and was known by most as a local cowboy.
Bernie was predeceased by grandchildren Michael and Dallas Spence. He
is survived by his wife Rose whom he was with for 65 years, brother Frank
(Marie), children Diana (Ardell), Robert (Roberta), Lynda (Brian), Doug
(Jaymi) and Lorna (Colin), grandchildren Jocelyn, Jennelle, Olivia, Marisa,
Leslie, Abrial, Travis and Elliot, and great grandchildren Brenton, Calliandra
and Adiella.
All are welcome to visit Rose’s home any date, and a Celebration of Life will
be held in September. In lieu of fl owers, any donations can be made directly
to the Kimberley Senior Centre #14 at the Kootenay Savings Credit Union.
