Feb 9, 1953 - Apr 6, 2018
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Brian Mackie announces his passing on Friday, April 6, 2018, in Cranbrook, BC, after a brief illness. He passed away peacefully with family and

close friends by his side. Brian was born and raised in Kimberley, BC.

Once he graduated from high school, he obtained his Bachelor of Education from UVIC. His teaching career spanned more than 35 years, starting in Stewart, BC and finishing with his retirement in Cranbrook. He taught at many elementary schools in Cranbrook, but most notably at Kootenay Orchards.

Brian loved teaching, but was especially passionate about teaching art. He lived and breathed art at home and in the classroom. Brian also taught art at COTR for the UVIC Teacher Education program.

Brian's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all of his caregivers during his illness. Thanks go out to Doctors L. Davis and G. Andreas, as well as to the exceptional staff at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook and the ladies in the St. Mary's pod at JCCV, as well as all the friends and hospice volunteers who supported him in his final days. A very special thanks goes out to Jeff and Linda Williams and Marianne Langin. You are all angels.

Brian was predeceased by his father Percy, and is survived by his mother Tressa, brother Gary (Bobbie-Jo), sister Donna (Allen) and extended family members.

A celebration of Brian's life is being considered for a later date. Donations in his memory would be gratefully appreciated to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada: www.braintumour.ca or to the charity or organization of your choice.
