Diane McGillivray

March 2, 2019

January 7, 1947 - March 2, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diane McGillivray (age 72) of Kimberley, B.C. on March 2nd, 2019.

Diane passed away due to complications from acute pancreatitis. She fought for her life for 3 months but in the end succumbed and passed away in Vancouver General Hospital with her beloved husband of 50 years, John McGillivray at her side.

Diane Joan McGillivray was born in Edmonton, AB. on January 7th, 1947, to parents Nell and Bill Day. She married John McGillivray on September 13th, 1968. Diane celebrated 50 years of marriage, with John, this past September with many family and friends.

Diane and John moved to Calgary early in their marriage for John to take a job with AGT. They had two children together (Colleen and David).

In 1982 Diane and John moved to Mississauga Ontario again for work. They stayed out East for 10 years and then decided to move back home to Calgary to be closer to their families. Diane was a very active member in the Order of the Eastern Star in Calgary during these years.

In retirement Diane moved to John's birthplace of Kimberley B.C. where she spent her time playing in bridge groups, going to aquasize classes, contributing to a gardening club and spending time at the curling rink and Kimberley Golf Course.

Diane attained the title of Master Gardener and was a wealth of knowledge about all things plant wise. She designed beautiful garden spaces in all her homes.

Diane was a loving mother, grandmother and wife who loved to play Scrabble (mostly with the women of the family), to quilt, to play bridge, to sew, cook and entertain.

John and her travelled extensively in their life together. Notable trips were Scotland, Ireland, Italy, a safari in Kenya, and cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal.

Diane cherished her husband John above all else and their love and devotion to each other stands out in her life. Theirs was a love story that has inspired many around them.

Diane is survived by her husband John, children Colleen and David, grandchildren Arielle and Kyle, sisters Mary (David), Judy (Gary), and Cathy (Dave), and brother Bill (Karen), many nieces, nephews, sisters and brother in laws, and close cousins.

A service in her honour and memory will be held at the United Church in Kimberley, B.C. on May 4th, 2019 at 2 pm with a luncheon there to follow.

In lieu of flowers the family asks charitable donations be made to the Easter Seals House in Vancouver, B.C. where John stayed for over 2 months.
