May 13, 1935 - March 2, 2024
In Loving Memory ~
Donald Roy Seymour passed peacefully from this life March 2, 2024 with family by his side.
Don was born in Calgary May 13, 1935 and grew up on a farm in what is now known as Ogden.
In 1956 Don met Pauline (Ward). We've all heard them giggle about the fact he had a pretty great car, and that was why she decided he would be a pretty good catch. And so, began a lifetime of love and devotion to each other.
They were married June 7, 1958, celebrating 65 years this past summer.
Don rarely met a machine he couldn't understand, so he travelled as a chainsaw salesman, went into partnership in a mechanics garage, and went on to complete his employed years as the Head Purchaser for the City of Kimberley. He would say, "From bolts to graders, I got it all."
In retirement, they travelled east, west and south buying antiques. He spent his winters refinishing exquisite pieces and selling them in the spring. Summer would come and their continent-wide travels would begin again.
In later years, they would marvel, "We did it all! Everything we ever wanted to do, we did."
They rooted their life in the Kimberley Area, first moving to Marysville and later to Chapman Camp. They built their cabin at Wasa Lake, which became the spot for countless gatherings of family and friends over the decades.
He was proud of his community was an active member of both the Kimberley Lion's and Kimberley Elks Lodge #90, eventually wearing the title of "Exalted Ruler" twice.
Always an adventurer, Don was a keen fisherman, who also loved horses, go karts, motorcycles and quad rides. His drives up St. Mary's Valley and out to Skookumchuk were some his favourite days. He always said he got to live in God's country.
A year ago, they finally decided to downsize, and moved to Tisdale, SK to be closer to their son Lloyd and their grandson Trevor. They opted for 'seniors' living' condos located across the street from all the healthcare services they might need (including the nursing home Don spent his final few weeks in).
This allowed Pauline to easily visit daily as they continued their devotion to each other in spite of Don's failing health.
To many - family and friends alike - he was known as 'Uncle Don', but his favourite name was 'Grandpa'. The 'Great' he got to add onto that was simply icing on a pretty awesome cake.
Don is survived by his loving wife Pauline and their two children: Maureen (Bill) Sorensen and her children Trevor (Megan) Mackan and Tarrah (Scott) Gall; and Lloyd (Shauna) Seymour and his children Corbin Seymour, Hannah Seymour and Connor Brown. Plus, great grandchildren Zoey and Layne Mackan.
He is also survived by his two brothers: Stuart (Jan) and Harley (Wendy) as well as so many of the Ward/Ketchmark 'clan'.
At Don's request no funeral services will be held. His urn will be placed at Wasa Memorial Columbarium at a later date.
The family thanks everyone for the kind wishes and phone calls. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to: Kimberley Elks Lodge #90, 240 Howard St., Kimberley, BC, V1A 2G7 in memory of Don.
