In loving memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas Bannink. He passed away peacefully in his Victoria residence with daughters Cathy and Carole and grandson Ryan by his side.
Doug was born in Lethbridge and raised on the family farm at Monarch with four siblings. His parents Everett and Nettie, his sisters Betty Mae, Jean and Linda, and his brother Donald all pre-deceased him.
Doug played professional AAA baseball from the ages of 16 to 19. He then began a career in sales. In 1965 Doug and wife Dona moved to Cranbrook. They joined the Gyro Club where they made many lifelong friends. Doug owned the John Deere industrial dealership in Cranbrook for 30 years. After retirement he enjoyed woodworking, fishing, golf and gardening. It was a devastating loss when his beloved wife Dona passed in November 2023.
In order to be near his daughters Doug moved to Victoria in July 2024. Cathy and Carole would like to thank the staff and home support team at the Victorian at McKenzie for all the wonderful care he received. Thanks also to the staff of the Green Home in Cranbrook and Dr. Sarah Chesney for their care and assistance in the move.
Doug will be greatly missed by Cathy, Carole, Ryan and his numerous loving nieces and nephews.
There will be no funeral service at Doug's request.
