1938-2021 ~ With great sadness, the family of Douglas Frank Harry Whitford announce his passing on July 14th, 2021.
Doug was born in Kimberley in 1938, and had a fantastic childhood with his parents Doug and Eileen and 3 sisters (Marj, Noelle, and Sherrin). Doug moved to Vancouver at age 17 to attend UBC, and graduated with a degree in geology and later obtained his Professional Mining Engineering designation.
Doug started his career in mining camps in Ontario and Manitoba for several years, before settling in Peachland BC working his way up to the head mining engineer at Brenda Mines. He later opened and operated a sports store for 16 years in Kelowna.
Doug retired and moved back into his family home in Kimberley in 1999 to reconnect with his Kimberley roots and old childhood friends. Doug loved skiing, golfing at the Kimberley Golf Course, and fly fishing on the St Mary River. He was a true outdoorsman.
Doug was a kind man and had a sharp sense of humour. Doug will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbours.
Doug is survived by sons Doug and Steve, grandson Brett, and granddaughters Bonnie and Georgia.
There will be no memorial service as per Doug's request, but Doug has requested that his ashes be spread on the St Mary River, one of his favourite places that always held a special place in his heart.
