January 14, 1942 - October 14, 2020
Elizabeth Jane Royea (nee Wasson) passed away peacefully at St John Hospice on October 14, 2020.
She was born January 14th, 1942 in Sussex, NB to Walther Daniel and Florence Elizabeth. She grew up across New Brunswick eventually settling in Sackville where she first met Merlyn Joseph Royea in 1957.
After studying to become an RN at the Montreal General, she married the love of her life at 21. They had sons Dan, Steve and Peter in the next few years while she supported her darling husband Merlyn Joseph's pursuit of his mining career.
Together they set up house in the Arctic, across BC and later on, in Ghana West Africa. A piece of her heart never left the Maritimes and she loved visiting their cottage in Murray Corner with friends and family every summer.
Wherever they lived, Janie thrived, focusing on being both a student and teacher of music as well as a loving mother, grandmother and friend to so many.
Once Merlyn retired, they enjoyed settling down in Vancouver. Janie was able to devote herself to her life-long passions of music and gardening.
She stayed in touch with friends and family all around the world. She was part of numerous organizations, for enjoyment and contribution, often taking on leadership roles.
She enjoyed travelling with Merlyn and was very active at St Mary's Church. And she always made time for her 6 grandsons who she adored.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Steven and Peter, daughters-in-law Jenny, Jen and Ana and grandsons Aidan, Lachlan, Adam, Linden, Theo and Jack. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Merlyn Joseph earlier this year and eldest son Daniel Joseph (2014).
A Celebration of both her and Merlyn's Lives will be held via online broadcast from St Mary's Church on October 25, at 2pm.
