Georges passed away peacefully in his home with his loving family by his side." I had a good life."
Georges was born on his family's farm in Normandy, France, the seventh of eight children. Here he worked hard and learned many skills that served him a lifetime. Georges experienced the hardship of German occupation during the war and then the joy of the arrival of the Allies and liberation. At one time, Colonel Patton took over the farmhouse for a few days as a communication centre.
At 20, he was stationed outside Paris for 2 years as part of his compulsory military service. Compared to life on the farm, this yearning to travel, Georges headed west, landing in Montreal in 1957 (he was heading to Australia but never made it).
Taking whatever work he could get, he ended up clearing bush for a pipeline in Northern Ontario where he experienced his first Canadian winter. Then, on to Winnipeg where he worked in a cement plant. There Georges met and married Maggy.
They continued west always chasing work, first in Blairmore where Evelyne was born, and then in 1964, moving to Kimberley where Naomi was born. After a few years as a jack-of-all-trades, he worked for Cominco at the fertilizer plant for 25 years. When it was shut down, Georges worked underground for 5 years before retirement.
During this time he bought, renovated and rented out several properties in Kimberley and built his first home in Meadowbrook. In 1978, Georges bought an acreage in Ta Ta Creek where he built the farm from the ground up. In 1989 he married his second wife, Sherrin. In 2003, at the age of 70, it was time to sell the farm and they moved into Kimberley.
In their 32 years together, they enjoyed many good times with friends and family, travelling, playing bridge and spending 16 summers at Kootenay Lake where Georges spent his days fishing in his beloved boat "The Canary."
Georges is survived by his wife, Sherrin, children Evelyne (Russ), Naomi (John), Ryan, Teara, grandchildren, Jordan (Jennifer), Kendera (Corey), Makayla and Marissa, and great-children, Ethan, Emma, Blake and Ronin and many nieces and nephews and their families in France.
He was predeceased by his parents Auguste and Marie (nee Esnouf) and his 7 siblings.
Georges will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a man of wisdom, determination, and strength. His final wish is for everyone to be good to each other.
