August 11, 1943 - May 23, 2025
It is with great sadness that we report the Passing of Ginger Penner on May 23, 2025.
Born in Cranbrook, BC, on August 11, 1943, Ginger brought warmth and laughter to everyone who knew her. She married the love of her life, Gerry Penner on October 12, 1974, in Kimberley, BC.
Ginger is survived by her husband Gerry and his children from a previous marriage - Phillip, Randy, and Lorri - as well as grandchildren Scott, Rachel, and Nicole, and great-granddaughters Audrey and Daphne. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family who adored her.
She was predeceased by her parents, Mel and Vera Johnson, son Phillip Penner, sisters Marci Marchant, Heather Camili, Marjorie Smith, and brothers Mike and Donald McLellan.
Ginger had a deep love for her grandchildren and never needed an excuse to spoil them with shopping trips or special treats.
She enjoyed watching her nieces and nephews grow up and had a special place in her heart for Joey Marchant, Mel Comilli and Michelle Comilli.
A lover of country music and dancing, Ginger enjoyed sewing and going out for dinner—though she was always modest about her own exceptional cooking.
She had a zest for life and found joy in the simple pleasures, especially time spent with loved ones and many friends on facebook.
Professionally, Ginger was a telephone operator in Cranbrook, then served as a receptionist in the Public Safety department and later worked at the Fort Steel Historical site.
Ginger and Gerry moved to Victoria, BC in 1981 where she held several positions with the Ministry of Health. There, her warm personality, great sense of humor and quick wit made her a favorite among colleagues and clients alike. She retired in 1998, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and service.
Ginger will be remembered for her generous spirit, infectious laughter, and the love she gave to everyone around her. She will be missed.
A "celebration of life" service will be held at First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Dr, Victoria BC, on Monday, August 11.
