It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, Graham McRae, at his home in Vancouver on January 18, 2018.
Graham was born on March 22, 1955 at the old Kimberley hospital. During his growing years in Kimberley, people of all ages liked him for his easy and caring nature. After serving as Valedictorian of his Selkirk graduating class in 1973, Graham went on to attend Simon Fraser University before setting out to travel the world. While in Barbados, he volunteered in community development and later, in Calgary, Graham worked with Special Needs Youth.
Graham returned to Kimberley, where he, along with Gayle Webb and Patti Dolighan, opened the popular Kalamazoo Restaurant. Many folks have fond memories of Graham's warm greeting and his ability to make them feel at home there. Graham also worked closely with his life partner, Erik Croonquist - the operator and and design artist at Della's Daisies in Kimberley, B.C.
Graham then went on to create and deliver a training curriculum for front line restaurant workers in Calgary and Edmonton. Graham was a fine, innovative instructor who positively influenced many people.
Once again returning to Kimberley, Graham continued his human resources consulting work and lovingly supported his aging father. Finally, Graham moved to Vancouver where he completed a Life Skills Coaching Program at Rhodes College. He then engaged in human resources consulting and advocacy work for the homeless.
Graham is survived by his brothers Ken (Carol) and Ron (Wilma), nephew Nick (Kristi, Solana, Finley), nieces Annelise (Dirk, Aylan) and Brodi (Dom , Max, Serafina) and constant and beloved friends, Erik Croonquist and Shelley Silver.
He was predeceased by his parents Ken and Anne McRae and nephew D'Arcy McRae.
There will be a gathering of family and friends later in the Spring.
