Karsten, Jacobus Martinus

Franciscus (Jack)

August 13, 1932 (Alkmaar, Holland)

- August 14, 2016 (Cranbrook, B.C.)

It is with great sadness that we announce Jack’s passing at the age of 84. Jack came to Canada when he was 20 years old seeking adventure and a new life. Ending up in Armstrong, B.C. where he worked on various farms for the next seven years until he went to Kitimat, B.C. He found employment with Alcan

where he worked for the next 26 years, 14 years in the smelter and 12 years on the wharf. On retirement from Alcan, Jack

moved to Cranbrook. Jack predeceased by his wife Jean, August 11, 2000, parents

Willem and Gertruida, and sisters Tiny, Gonny and Cisca. Jack is lovingly remembered by his partner Lorraine Langille, sisters Bep (Piet) Buisman and Truus Karsten, brother Jan (Bertha),

brother-in-law Cor Pieters and Jan (Ada) Van Twuijver and numerous nieces and nephews in Holland and Canada.

Jack was an avid curler and loved to play baseball. Jack had a love for gardening, he always had a great deal of pride in his vegetable garden and

flowers. He was very proud of the fact that his flowers were showcased in the Cranbrook Garden Show.

If three words could be used to sum up his life, they would be integrity, loyalty and generosity. Jack has requested there would be no funeral. In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Jack may be made to the Lung Association.
