Jack was born in Caledonia, Queens County, Nova Scotia. His mother Lillian Hogan (nee Dicken) moved the family to Fernie upon his father's death in 1942. Jack went on to graduate from High School in 1949. By the time he retired in 1987 he had spent 35 years with the B.C. Forest Service.

Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 61 years, Barbara; his son John and wife Ricki (Campbell River, B.C.) and his daughter Kathleen Erhardt and husband Vaughn (Calgary, Alberta); six grandchildren Anthony, Jeremiah, Matthew, Sean, Amanda and Timothy; his sisters Ruth Skelton (Calgary, Alberta) and Dorothy Durham (Jaffray, B.C.); he is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; he was predeceased by his son Bruce is 1977.

Jack passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2018 in Calgary, Alberta.

A memorial service to celebrate Jack's life will be held at the Cranbrook United Church on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 1 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
