In loving memory ~

Digger has gone Fishing

The family of John (Digger) Daigle are sorry to announce that Dad passed away May 11, 2024, peacefully (age 88) and joined his loving wife (Betty) of 62 years.

Dad was born in Nova Scotia and moved to Kimberley with their parents and siblings (Ron and Anne) in 1949. Dad always enjoyed fishing and one day he and a friend skipped school to go fishing only to be picked up on the road by their teacher who was doing the same thing. He became a journeyman electrician and worked several major construction jobs in the Kootenay area. He got on steady with Cominco and settled in Lois Creek to raise his young family (Sherry and Michael). He also became one of Kimberley's first ambulance attendants and volunteered as a ski patroller on North Star. He also spent time as a trainer for the Dynamiters. He spent time as an Alderman for the city prior to accepting a position with Cominco in Pine Point NWT. The family was moved in the fall of 1975. The North provided many opportunities for Dad and the family (sports, outdoor experiences, travel to the high Arctic). After a 5-year stint in the NWT Dad rounded out his career still with Cominco (Teck) in Trail. Dad retired from regular work in 1991 and moved back to Kimberley. He worked some contract work at various locations and again did some volunteer service at The Pines, the Mining Railway, Hosting for BC Parks, and several days at the fish hatchery. Dad was always willing to share information about what to use or how to catch the beautiful Rainbow Trout that he prized. He was also proud of the many cedar strip canoes he helped build.

Dad was pre-deceased by a young brother in Nova Scotia and Brother Ron. Dad's sister Anne is well and living in California. Dad is also survived by daughter Sherry (Fred) Christensen with Grandson Shane Granddaughter Chelsey and son Mike (Allison) with Grandson Tyler.

We are so grateful for the love and support provided by Mom and Dad to us and our families.

The Family wishes to thank the staff of EKRH for their care and support in the past and this past month.
