Laura Gail Rivard

November 4, 1942 - October 17, 2017

Laura passed away at the Calgary Foothills Hospital on October 17 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Dauphin, Manitoba and moved to New Westminster, B.C. with her family in the late fifties. Upon completion of her high school, she attended the school of nursing in Vancouver. She worked briefly in Terrace and then moved to Oliver in 1967 where she met her future husband Fern while nursing in Oliver and got married on February 17, 1968.

She had two children, son Christopher in 1973 and daughter Chantal in 1975. She worked at the Cranbrook Hospital for years until her health started to fail.

She was predeceased by her parents Ernie and Cecilia Strand.

She is survived by her son Christopher; daughter Chantal; her husband Fern of 49 years; her granddaughter Akaylia (Andrew); two great-grandsons, Holden and Kael; great-granddaughter Kennedy; sisters Mary, Tannis, Betty (Ted) Kingston, and Ethel (Dwayne) Hruschak and Aunt Aida.

Laura was a very kind and generous lady who easily made friends. She loved gardening, cooking, reading, playing cards and doing her daily newspaper puzzle.

She will be sadly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Funeral mass will be held at Christ The Servant Church, 1100 14th Ave. S., Cranbrook, on Saturday, October 28 at 11:00 a.m.
