December 7, 1929 - May 10, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, grand, great grand and great-great grandmother, unt and friend.
Mom was born on December 7, 1929 in the old Kimberley hospital. Her entire life was spent in Kimberley where she met and married her husband, John and where they raised their three girls.
Mom loved to camp; first in a tent, then a camper and finally in a trailer, which she learned to pull. Mom and Dad camped all over the area, first with their girls and then with their group of special friends. She particularly loved camping at our friend Tubby's cabin where she could help do anything that needed to be done then relax by the campfire and enjoy the evenings with friends. She loved to knit and sew. When the girls were younger, she made matching outfits for them for Christmas and Easters and there were always hand knit sweaters and homemade clothes and blankets for the dolls that were inevitably under the Christmas tree! Many an hour was spent at the sewing machine making costumes for the figure skating carnivals the girls were in. She learned to golf and spent many hours on the Kimberley Golf course - even scored a hole in one! Skiing became a part of her life when she was in her 40's and she spent hours on the hill doing many a run (with the odd stop in the wine patch) with skiing buddies. The "Sewing Circle"ladies were very special in her life - they didn't do much sewing in the circle but the get togethers meant a lot.
She was an avid fan of the Kimberley Dynamiters - first, when they were a senior hockey team, then when they joined the junior league. She looked forward to every game and was a very loyal fan.
Mom is survived by her daughters Denice (John) and Susan, as well as her grandchildren, Gillian Huppie (Pat), Digger Loutit (Adrienne), Jeff Young (Nikkela) and great grandchildren, Brenton, Adelaide and Brianna and several nieces and nephews and their families. She also acquired a second family of grandchildren, great grandchildren and even a great-great grandson, Jaxson, through these marriages.
She was predeceased by her husband, John, daughter, Dayle, her parents, Cliff and Elsie Swan, sisters Eleanor Schnurr and Hazeldine Ralph, brother, Gordon and all her brothers/sisters-in-law.
She moved up to Garden View last year and loved her little apartment and the friends and acquaintances she had or made there.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation or the Heart & Stroke Foundation - BC & Yukon.
A special thank you goes out to the staff at Garden View. She had nothing but good to say about all the staff and the support she was given during her stay there. Thank you all - you are a very special group and our seniors are very lucky to have you!
A celebration of life will be held in honor of Margaret on Friday May 17th, 2019 ~1 pm at McPherson Funeral Home Kimberley BC.
