In loving memory ~
Mary Edna Berglund (nee Wanuk) was born September 23, 1923 in St. Eugene Hospital in Cranbrook. Edna passed away peacefully on December 4, 2021 at Columbia View Lodge, Trail, BC at age 98.
Edna cherished her childhood growing up in Kimberley. At 18 she ventured from her hometown to attend hairdressing school in Vancouver where she fell in love with city life, the ocean and a young soldier named Kenneth Berglund who became the love of her life. Following the end of WW11 they returned to Kimberley where they raised their 4 sons.
Edna, had an incredible love for family and a zest for life, always eager to be part of an event. She will be remembered for her bubbly laugh, her warm hugs, home-made bread and her love for old movies and music, especially dancing to the big band sound. She was a great story teller and she loved to reminisce, especially about the times she and Kenny spent exploring the Hawaiian Islands.
Edna, will be sorely missed by Greg (Elizabeth), Richard (Marilyn), Gene, daughter-in-law Ann, grandchildren; Alastair (Olivia), Iain, Cody, Bo (Kayla), Kassidy, Andrea (Shane), Jocelyn (Kai), Carolyn (Gord) and Katy along with her 10 great-grandchildren, nieces Darcy and Lisa, nephews and cousins.
Edna is predeceased by her husband Kenny, parents George and Caroline Wanuk, siblings; George (Lou), Irene (Larry), Perry, son Carey and grandson Quinn.
Special thanks to the staff at Garden View, The Pines in Kimberley, Rocky Mountain Village,
Fernie and Columbia View Lodge, Trail, for their compassion and care over the last few months.
As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to The Cominco Gardens in Kimberley.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Kimberley. Until then, raise a glass or two of Pilsner, with a big Aloha to Edna.
