We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Murray Horton Dean on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

Murray was born in Regina, Saskatchewan to Horton and Christine (nee McLeod) Dean of Langbank, Saskatchewan. His years growing up on the farm instilled a strong sense of hard work, family, and community. After leaving home, he became a sales rep for Massey Ferguson for 10 years. Murray then started his 31 year aviation career as a base manager in Uranium City, Saskatchewan, then in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and finally in Cranbrook, British Columbia. Murray and his family moved to Kimberley in 1991 where he resided until his passing. He enjoyed camping, card games, volunteering at both the Kimberley Underground Mining Railway and Kimberley United Church, as well as exploring the Kootenays.

Murray is survived by his wife of 43 years, Eileen (nee Trotter), and his three children Denis, Jennifer, and Heather (Mike Ballendine), and 2 grandchildren, Austin and Naomi. He is survived by his 2 brothers Donald Dean (Kathleen) of Langbank, and James Dean of Regina; as well as brothers-in-law Walter Trotter (Diane Pachiorka), Gary Trotter (Elaine Gareau), and sister-in-law Dianna (Barry) Lyons, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service for Murray will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at the Kimberley United Church in Kimberley, BC. Memorial donations in his honor can be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 47 Squire Baker’s Lane, Markham, ON, L3P 3G8 or to the Kimberley United Church, 10 Boundary St., Kimberley BC, V1A 3C8.
