Nora Nowell (nee Knight)

January 23, 1917 - October 19, 2017

Mrs. Nora Nowell (born Knight) of Cranbrook, BC, passed away at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 100 years of age.

Nora was born in Haslingden, Lancashire, England on January 23, 1917. She worked in the cotton factories there and during World War II married a Canadian soldier, Bill, in 1943. She arrived on the Queen Mary as a war bride in June of 1946 where she met Prime Minister Mackenzie King.

Nora and Bill farmed in Makaroff, Manitoba from 1946 to 1956. They moved briefly to Haslingden in Lancashire then came back to Manitoba, living in MacGregor, Otter Falls Resort and Churchill. In 1968 they went west to BC's northwest coast living in Prince Rupert and Stewart, BC. They moved south to Cranbrook in 1974.

Nora was the last of a family of nine. Her husband Bill passed away in 1993. Nora leaves her daughters Val Speta of Vancouver and Pam Senior of Winnipeg; and son Rick in Cranbrook. Nora has six grandchildren Sheryl, Shanalee, Debbie, Angie, Ernie and Randy, 12 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook, BC on Friday October 27 at 1:00 pm with Rev Ibi Chuan presiding. Her interment will be in Westlawn Cemetery.
