Rolfe (RY) Ganong

March 27, 2018

Feb 5, 1926 - Mar 27, 2018
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Rolfe Ganong at the age of 92. He died peacefully on March 27th, 2018 at Gateway Residential Care Facility, Prince George, BC. He was surrounded by family and left us with the words, "Beautiful roses" on his lips.

Rolfe was born February 5th, 1926 at Havelock, New Brunswick. He was attracted to flying early in life, earning his 'wings' from the RCAF at 18. Subsequently he flew for pleasure and later as a fixed-wing instructor at Toronto Island. After learning to fly helicopters Rolfe went on to work for Okanagan Helicopters, then Canadian Helicopters, flying on the DEW line in the Canadian north, the United States, and South America. He finished his career as Base Manager at Cranbrook, BC where he subsequently spent a long and happy retirement.

Rolfe shared his life with his sweetheart, Irene Ella (Lovely) who, sadly, predeceased him by 10 years.

Rolfe is survived by his brother Kingston Ganong, his children Bonnie Watt (Rob), Marcy Hunt (Dennis), and Ian Ganong, grandchildren Daniel, Iain, Tavah, Mitchell, and Emily.

He will be remembered by great-grandchildren Thompson, Cameron, and Maddy, and nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by grandchildren Andrew and Christopher.

In respect of Rolfe's wishes, he was cremated and no service will be held.

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;"

from "High Flight" - John Gillespie Magee, Jr.
