Roy passed away at age 77 peacefully at his home with his life partner of 39 years, Fritzi McLeish by his side. Roy was born in Kimberley to Thelma and Eugene Almas where he lived his whole life surrounded by family and friends.
Roy was very active and enjoyed many outdoor interests. He was a true outdoorsman, learning to hunt and fish at a young age. He enjoyed skiing, long distance running, white water canoeing and building his own cedar strip canoes. Roy had many careers in his life including working for CPRail, active member of the Sullivan Mine Rescue Team, Millwright and Power Lineman with Cominco and Universal Power in Cranbrook. Finishing his working career as a successful Realtor for Caldwell Agencies. Roy was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Councilor for the City of Kimberley for many years and sat on many boards volunteering his time.
Roy and Fritzi lived a full and joyful life together. They loved to travel, going to places like the Maritimes, Hawaii, all through Europe, and Germany being their favorite destination. Sometimes it was just a quick trip to the States without notice. They enjoyed driving through the mountains, camping, hunting, and fishing. Family was always important to him, and he loved to share his life skills and family traditions with his children and his grandchildren. He was a fantastic cook and enjoyed being in the kitchen creating dishes for his family and friends to enjoy.
Roy is survived by his partner in life Fritzi, two sons, Daniel (Donna) grandchildren Jesse, Devon, Micah, and Kai. Steven (Tamara) grandchildren Liam and Carys. Daughter, Nicole(Bryan) grandchildren Dane, Maxum, and Christian Roy. Two sisters, Maxine (Rick) Admussen and Colleen (David) O'Connor.
