Letter: Re Thefts from Vehicles

Given the gross irresponsibility of any vehicle owner who carelessly leaves a door unlocked and therefore causes a theft, we must empower the RCMP to impose fines for leaving valuables exposed and causing a crime. This new law would reinforce the twin principles of implied guilt and collective punishment which unfortunately characterize current lawmaking at all levels of government. Don’t the police have anything useful to do?
