City Councillor Darryl Oakley reads to kids at the Library's Literacy event.

The Friends of the Kimberley Library hosted a fun Literacy morning on Saturday at the Kimberley Library to celebrate Family Literacy Day. Over 60 adults and children enjoyed reading and participating at the wonderful library event - one of the  many Family Literacy Day activities held in Kimberley this year. Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development.

Thank you to readers Darryl Oakley and Rick Prasad. There was a good turnout that enjoyed the reading , games , a visit from Krista Grasdal from the SPCA and refreshments.

There were draws for book prizes with the winners being Emily , Effie, Joey, Annika, Hanna, Brooklyn , Ben, Tristen, Carmyn, Micah, Nico and MayLyn. The grand prize of a gift certificate (for books of course!) went to Petra and her mom Ingrid. Thank you to the many Friend Volunteers for making this event possible.
