As December approaches the annual migration of rabbits up to the Kimberley Nordic Club is about to begin. Jackrabbits that is.
The KNC’s children’s cross country ski programs begin this year on December 7 and registration is still open.
Jackrabbits is a 12-week program for children ages 4 to 14, every Sunday at 1:30 throughout the winter and is a great value at only $70.
Application forms are available online, go to kimberleynordic.org under the tag LESSONS AND PROGRAMS for more details on signing up your child.
Young skiers will get lessons on the fundamentals of cross country skiing from certified instructors. Having fun is a major component of this program and much of the instruction is play based.
Jackrabbits also promotes the idea of embracing cross country skiing a life-long activity and making fitness a lifestyle choice.
Older skiers age 8-13 can join the Track Attack program, which slowly introduces Jackrabbits to training and racing.
Highlights of the season include participation in the Kootenay Cup, the Bavarian Relays and ski orienteering.
Ski rentals are available in limited amounts, at reasonable prices.
Application forms are also available at Togs in Kimberley.
