High School graduation is Kimberley is all about tradition, but this year’s grads decided to make a few changes and shake things up a bit.
While for many years family and friends have headed up to Cominco Gardens for photos of the grads in their prom finery, this year there were some new ideas, which resulted in a coordinated ‘Grad Walk” through the Platzl
““The timing was right for this addition” says Lori Joe the parent volunteer and organizer. “People said they would love a time and place where they could see all the grads in their beautiful prom dresses and tuxedos. The grad council advertised the event with posters and by word of month. It appeared the community was ready for the change as hundreds of people came out to celebrate this momentous occasion with the class of 2014.”
Joe says a lot of people helped out to make the walk a success, including .Mike with the Chamber of Commerce for all his support, the crew with the City of Kimberley for making the Platzl look so amazing, Hailey Fahquar for her fine job as our MC, Mayor Ron McRae, all the parent volunteers, and lastly all the great Kimberley folks that came out to the Platzl that afternoon.
Another new addition was the change of location for photos. Grads headed up to Trickle Creek Golf Course for the annual photo shoot.
“The golf course provided a perfect venue, with lots of parking,and plenty of open spaces for photo opportunities. A big thank you to Ray Goumiont and staff for making the greens and course look so amazing,” Joe said.
A final change was a trip up North Star Mountain on the quad chair for a photo shoot.
This was a bit symbolic, Joe says.
“This particular event was not all about the photo but the journey to the “Top of the Mountain”,” Joe said. “It was a time for the grads to look down upon the town they grew up in and say goodbye. The setting was stunning! It was a magical event!
“A big thank you to Jill Bellm with Trickle Creek Lodge/RCR,the staff of RCR, and the parent volunteers that came out to help.
“I would also like to send out a big thank you to all the grads who supported all the events and wish them all the best in their future. I would also like to thank Jen Quigley, Clint Dolgopol,and Greg Thygesen for all they have done to make this years grad so special, and Brittney Kwasney for the awesome photos.”
