Kimberley’s Round the Mountain 2015

This year's festival is scheduled for June 21 at the Nordic Trails entrance

For the Bulletin

RTM 2015 is coming up fast. Sunday June 21st will be the 5th instalment of the festival celebrating Kimberley’s vast trail network, and the nearly iconic Round the Mountain route circumnavigating Northstar Mountain a.k.a the Ski Hill. Hosted by Kootenay Orienteering Club, Kootenay Freewheelers and Kimberley Trails Society, proceeds are directed towards trail maintenance and improvements, as well as supporting the volunteers who maintain them. In addition to the popular Magic Line Trail, trail signage and kiosks, proceeds from previous events have supported the recent construction of 3km of new single track trail which will provide more challenge and excitement for this year’s competitors as well as  year round fun for recreational trail users. Mountain Bikers also get an extended course this year with even more fast and flowing single track on the Thunder Turkey trail completed by KTS last year.

Round the Mountain participants have a choice of challenges: to trek, run or mountain bike the 20 km RTM loop. Feeling up for more of a challenge, then there is the option to make 2 laps RTM with the 40K Duo. New in 2015 is the sprint duo with two 4km laps open to anyone wanting a less onerous commitment! There are also shorter course options for runners in the Kimberley Nature Park and Nordic Centre, and the Kids Extreme race is on yet another newly completed trail, ‘Happy Hans’. Over 80 tireless volunteers and many local businesses, including this year’s platinum sponsors Kootenay Mountain Works, Go Kimberley and Moody Bees, make all this possible.

Even if you don’t want to compete, come on up to the Kimberley Nordic Centre and enjoy the atmosphere. We have Flippin’ Crepes, FoodEx, Heartbeet and the Green Door providing some great food. The Hollers are back yet again for the great tunes and good times in our Beer Garden. We have the ever-popular silent auction, plus various activities for the kids including the Spirit Rock climbing wall. A shuttle will be available from the Visitor Centre downtown with stops at the Alpine Resort for overflow parking. All the details are at

Some categories have participant caps including the 20K MTB and the Kid’s events so you are encouraged to register early.

We look forward to seeing you June 21st.
