Unique event in Kimberley's Platzl

Board and ski in the Platzl Saturday at the Platzl Mayhem Rail Jam

The Platzl is going to see some skiing and boarding action this Saturday, February 15, beginning at 6 p.m. with the Mayhem in the Platzl Rail Jam.

Skiers and boarders will be negotiating a rail course beginning at the Black Bear Books location on Deer Park Avenue continuing down to the gazebo.

Organizers say snow will be contoured for the event but a rail jam includes anything in the path of the athlete — mailboxes, street benches, railings and walls are all fair game.

A DJ will be performing complete with a light show.

Fashion Mayhem starts at 7 p.m., in the former Fields building (196 Spokane St) and will showcase local designers and retailers.

The Mark Creek Lions Club will host a warming station.

Great prizes are available for the athletes including the first Mayhem Trophy.

If you’d like to compete, registration is at 4 p.m. followed by practice time at 5 p.m. and the competition starts at 6 p.m.
