KIJHL: Beaver Valley bound

The Kimberley Dynamiters and Beaver Valley Nitehawks kickstart their best-of-seven Kootenay Conference final Wednesday in Fruitvale

Following a six-game victory over the Fernie Ghostriders in the KIJHL’s Eddie Mountain Division final, the fun isn’t about to stop for the Kimberley Dynamiters.

Having worked their way past the Ghostriders, the Dynamiters head to Fruitvale for the best-of-seven Kootenay Conference final, with Game 1 set for Wednesday night against the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.

“We started preparing as soon as the buzzer went [to end Game 6 against Fernie],” said Nitros goaltender Tyson Brouwer Monday.

“We don’t want to stop at a division win. We want to go all the way and I think that’s been our goal since day one.”

This is the Dynamiters’ first trip to the conference final since falling to the Nitehawks in a 3-0 sweep during the 2004-05 season.

Game 2 goes Thursday in Beaver Valley. Both gametimes are set for 8 p.m.

The series shifts back to Kimberley for Games 3 and 4, March 14 and 15, respectively. Puck drop at the Kimberley Civic Centre for Games 3 and 4 is 7:30 p.m.

If necessary, the series returns to Fruitvale March 17 for Game 5.

Game 6 is slated for March 18 (8 p.m.) at the Kimberley Civic Centre and should the Nitehawks and Dynamiters go the distance, Game 7 goes March 19 in Fruitvale (8 p.m.)

“They know how to win,” said Nitros head coach Jerry Bancks. “It’s going to be important for us to believe in ourselves.”

All games times listed are Mountain time.
