The Kimberley Nitro Xpress team from the Kimberley Academy have a home tournament coming up this weekend. The Mountain Meltdown Tournament takes place today through Sunday.

“We’ve got five teams attending,” said the Academy’s Brad Park. “The Vernon Lakers, Red Deer Chiefs, Strathmore Storm, Calgary Inferno White and the Seattle Lady Admirals. These teams are a mix of Double A and Triple A teams. It’s as good as it gets for midget girls hockey.”

The XPress have had an up and down year thus far, but Park is optimistic.

“We have a really young team this year but Hannah (Coach Hannah Armstrong) believes their development is coming along really well. We should do well this weekend.”

Kimberley plays Vernon at the Civic Centre tonight at 5:30; Red Deer at the Marysville Arena at 9 a.m. Saturday, and Strathmore at the Civic Centre at 3:15 Saturday. The playoffs begin on Sunday with the gold medal match at 3:15 p.m.
