Paper Excellence, which operates the Skookumchuk Pulp Mill, is once again sponsoring Kimberley’s junior NBA basketball program, now in its third year.

Adam de Jong, Instrumentation Supervisor at the mill, has been involved in the program since its inception. The idea is to keep costs down to only $100 per child, with the remaining costs covered by fundraisers and sponsors such as Paper Excellence.

“Two years ago, I saw the chance to help build a program that wasn’t available in our town and I wanted to provide a great experience to kids in a sport that has been a big part of my life,” de Jong said.

The program offers kids an introduction to basketball for youth six to 12 years old. It starts in October andirons twice a week for six weeks, with another session in the spring. Over 60 youth participated last year.
