Starting Thursday Jan. 18 and running for six consecutive weeks, with the exception of the week of Family Day, Rec Rut Runners, the adult ski race series, returns to Kimberley Alpine Resort.

This series, while definitely challenging, puts its emphasis on having fun, hanging out with friends and making new ones. It provides a great opportunity to work on your skiing skills, get an introduction to running gates, and spend time with like-minded people.

Participants must be at least 18 years old and helmets are mandatory. Skiers, snowboarders, telemarkers and sit-skiers are all welcome, you just need to be at an intermediate skill level.

Racers can meet up on the main run under the lights, with inspection starting at 5:45 p.m. and the race at 6 p.m. The quad opens for night skiing at 5:30 p.m.

Aprés in the Stemwinder begins at around 8 p.m., a chance to socialize, analyze race video and get prizes.

The price is $90 for all six nights, or $20 per drop-in. The cost does not include the price of a lift ticket. Night-ski passes are available through Guest Services, or you can call 250-427-4881.

For drop-ins, you must sign up in the rental shop the night of the race, or during the day at the Winter Sports School Cabin.

To register you can either: sign up early in person at the Winter Sports School Cabin at the KAR base area; call the Winter Sports School at 250-432-0315; register as a drop in the day of the race.

The first night is Thursday, Jan. 18 with a Dual Glalom Race, then a Dual Slalom on Jan. 25 and Feb. 1, a Thigh Burner GS Race on Feb. 8, a Valentines Day Race on Feb. 15 and a Retro Dress Dual GS Race on Feb. 29.
