Reinhart invited to national U-18 tryout camp

Young Ice captain looking to book a spot on Team Canada for second straight year.

Sam Reinhart is back in familiar territory, as Hockey Canada invited the Kootenay Ice captain to the national men’s U-18 selection camp this week in Toronto.

Reinhart, 17, made the team last year and helped the Canadian squad towards a  bronze medal finish at the IIHF World U18 Championships in the Czech Republic.

The tryout camp features invitees from teams that are out of the CHL playoffs, and six other WHLers will join the Kootenay Ice sniper. Eight players are representing the QMJHL, while six skaters hail from the OHL.

Don Hay, who mans the bench for the WHL’s Vancouver Giants, will coach the national squad for the tournament, which is hosted in Sochi, Russia.

Canada will play two pre-tournament games before the IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship, on April 14 against the United States and April 16 against the Czech Republic. Canada will open the tournament on April 18 against Slovakia.
